Come join us as we revive the Memphis Music Listening Party with Robert Gordon! The pandemic forced a pause, but we are back and hope to bring you Memphis music legends on a bimonthly basis. In our unique format, Robert will interview the musicians as we play five songs from their career.
This month, we have the legendary saxophone player Jim Spake. If you’ve seen live music in Memphis, or
listened to an album recorded in Memphis over the last three decades, the odds
are pretty good that you’ve heard Jim Spake.
Spake has played with so many bands and on
so many records, the odds are good even he has trouble remembering them all.
Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tony Bennett, John Hiatt, Cat Power, Ben E. King,
Rod Stewart and Big Star, Spake’s sax work has graced them all.
