DESCRIPTION:This month\, in honor of Black History Month\, our "page-to-screen" book club is reading \;Black Klansman: Race\, Hate\, and the Undercover Investigation of a Lifetime\, the 2014 memoir by retired police officer Ron Stallworth. The book recounts Stallworth's 1970's undercover infiltration of the white supremacist hate group the Ku Klux Klan while working as the first African-American police officer and detective in the Colorado Springs\, Colorado police department.Ask for a copy of the book at the Humanities Desk on the 2nd Floor of the Central Library. Read the book\, then come for a screening of the 2018 film adaptation\, entitled BlacKkKlansman\, directed by Spike Lee and starring John David Washington (Denzel's son) in the title role\, on Saturday\, February 15 at 2:00 p.m. in Meeting Room A. The movie was nominated for 6 Academy Awards\, winning in the best adapted screenplay category\, and also received the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. The screening will be followed by a discussion about the film and the movie.Even if you haven't read the book\, you are welcome to join us to watch the movie and participate in the conversation!
