Art To Grow-Teens

FREE monthly art classes for Young Adults taught by Memphis's own Dixon Art Museum. Classes are based on monthly art installations at the Dixon Museum. All Materials Included!
Events Include:

September 13th Gilded Self Portraits: Using the exhibition as inspiration, teens will create their own self portraits on black paper and will use gold leaf to embellish their artworks. 
October 11th Paper Crane Installation: They will make as many cranes as time permits and at the end of class they will tie the cranes from string and hang their sculptures as a collaborative piece that will be displayed at the participating organizations. 
November 8th Paper Marbling: Students will use various colors of ink on a shallow tray of water and will press paper onto the tray to create a beautiful and unique work of art. 
December 6th Clay Key chains: Using polymer clay, teens will create key chains. The teen instructor will use a toaster oven to fire the clay at the end of the session. 
January 10th Image Transfers: Students will learn how to create an image transfer and will transfer images from the collection onto a variety of surfaces like clay and wood. 
February 7th Screen Printing: Using Modge Podge and simple silhouette stencils, they will block out certain areas of their screen. Then, using fabric paint, they will create a print of their image on fabric. Students can bring their own t-shirt to print on and the Dixon will provide bandanas. 
March 7th Insect Collections: Using plastic insects, students will create a faux insect collection. They will use foam core, fabric, T-pins, and plastic insects to curate their own collection. 
April 4th Leaf Print Bookmarks: Students will create a gelatin print of leaves to make a truly unique book bark. 
May 2nd Artist Trading CardsStudents will use a variety of artworks on view at the museum as inspiration in creating several small trading card designs. Teens can trade their miniature artworks with one another to assemble a collection of unique artwork made
